SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Police have confirmed that an inquiry paper has been initiated to determine whether any criminal offence is linked to the eHati marriage motivation programme.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that several witnesses will be called in soon to verify claims, including the alleged use of water that may have caused hallucinations.

“So far, the information we’ve received is based solely on third-party accounts. We will summon individuals involved to determine if any criminal offences were committed,” he said when contacted today.

“As such, an investigation paper has been opened to obtain direct statements and verify the alleged use of specific water or any other potential offences under the Penal Code.”

He also stated that the police are working closely with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) within their respective jurisdictions to gather key information related to the allegations against eHATI.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was previously reported to have instructed JAIS to investigate claims of immoral activities allegedly taking place during eHATI programmes held at a convention centre. JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad later confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995. — Bernama
