KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — The price of diesel in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan remains unchanged at RM2.15 per litre, as it is considered essential to daily life rather than just a fuel source.

The Ministry of Finance Malaysia said the region, which is about 60 per cent larger than Peninsular Malaysia and features challenging terrain, makes residents more reliant on diesel for everyday needs.

According to the ministry, diesel is widely used for electricity generation via generators, as well as for key economic activities such as transport and fishing.

It added that limited road connectivity in interior areas means residents often depend on water transport and four-wheel-drive vehicles. In addition, some rural areas still lack full electricity coverage, making diesel a primary energy source.

The ministry also noted that diesel consumption in the region is around two billion litres, adding that targeted subsidy implementation is designed to prioritise needs and ensure fair and efficient distribution. — Bernama
