KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
JOHOR BARU, June 22 — The Johor Department of Environment (DOE) has confirmed that no ammonia was detected at any of the monitoring sites surrounding the scene of a lorry and engine oil store fire at Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, earlier today.
According to Johor DOE director Dr Mohd Famey Yusoff, even the fire control post recorded non-hazardous levels of ammonia during checks conducted last night.
He said air quality monitoring, which started at 10am today, also covered Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kota Puteri, Makmur Maju Logistic Sdn Bhd, and several points along Jalan Cenderai 27.
“The air quality monitoring results near the fire site showed no presence of gas parameters or volatile organic compounds (VOC),” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Johor Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 chief, Senior Fire Superintendent I Zaipulbahri Mat Rusok, reported that firefighting efforts in Division 1 were completed by 4am.
However, operations at Division 2 are ongoing due to the presence of numerous large oil drums, which are obstructing access and hampering efforts to fully extinguish the fire.
The incident affected five premises and approximately 1,000 square metres, destroying 15 vehicles in the process.
The Fire and Rescue Department operations centre received the emergency call at 12.54pm. A total of 34 personnel, along with equipment from various fire stations and volunteer units, were dispatched to the scene. — Bernama
