KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) will hold engagement sessions with stakeholders to explain existing guidelines for handling bullying cases, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said the initiative was in response to one of the four demands outlined in the #JusticeForZara memorandum submitted by student activists to the ministry yesterday.

“The ministry is open to receiving views and suggestions to improve the current guidelines,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

On the call for comprehensive reform of the national education system, particularly concerning bullying, Fadhlina said the ministry had already introduced several key measures to strengthen safety across all educational institutions under its purview.

“These measures include safety audits, improving the bullying complaint mechanism, forming a safety reform committee, taking firm action such as suspending or expelling students involved in bullying, and reinforcing psychosocial support at every level,” she said.

Addressing the request for mandatory and periodic training for all teachers, administrators, and wardens on crisis intervention, student emotional management, and professional handling of bullying complaints, Fadhlina said such training would continue to be strengthened to ensure readiness among school staff.

She added that all educational institutions under the ministry must comply with the guidelines for addressing bullying cases.

On the demand for public disclosure regarding the case of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, Fadhlina said the ministry would fully cooperate with the police investigation, while updates would be issued periodically by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

“The MOE welcomes PDRM’s initiative to establish a special task force to handle the case involving the late Zara Qairina,” she said, adding that she met with student activist representatives in Parliament to discuss the memorandum’s concerns in detail. — Bernama
