ISLAMABAD, April 15 — Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will begin a four-day diplomatic tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey today, the foreign ministry said, as Islamabad intensifies efforts ahead of a potential second round of US-Iran peace talks.
ALOR SETAR, April 15 — The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has provisionally classified the fire that destroyed three blocks at Sekolah Menengah Ugama (A) Darul Ulum Al-Muhammadiah in Bachok, Kelantan, last Sunday as an accident.
JBPM deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Ahmad Izram Osman said investigations are still ongoing, including laboratory analysis of samples sent to Terengganu to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
“In our ongoing investigation, since this involves a government facility, all aspects must be examined. For now, it has been classified as an accident pending lab results,” he told reporters after the JBPM Kedah 2025 Excellent Service Award ceremony today.
He added that the school hostel is not subject to Fire Certificate (FC) requirements, meaning routine JBPM inspections are not mandatory compared to certified premises.
He stressed the importance of greater awareness and responsibility among building managers in reducing fire risks, especially in older structures.
Ahmad Izram also urged wardens and supervisors to be more vigilant on safety matters, including electrical wiring conditions and the use of appliances, particularly device charging that could lead to overload.
He noted that most fire incidents are typically caused by electrical faults or equipment issues rather than gas-related factors, which are not present in the hostel.
Previous reports said three blocks of the school were affected in the incident last Sunday, with one almost completely destroyed. — Bernama
