KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — A tragic house fire in Kampung Sangkir, Kota Belud, claimed the lives of a married couple early this morning.

The victims, Mamat @ Jamrin Sinti and his wife Noorijah Rashid, both 47, were found dead in the bathroom of their home.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue station chief Elge Bakuk said they received a distress call at 2.52am. A team of ten firefighters, along with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team found the single-storey house fully engulfed in flames, with a nearby vehicle also destroyed.

Firefighters managed to control the blaze by 3.22am and later discovered the charred remains of the couple in the bathroom. Their bodies were handed over to the police.

The operation concluded at 4.55am after ensuring the area was safe from further hazards.

District police chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain confirmed that the husband worked as a rubber tapper and said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
