Foreign ministers arrive in Kuala Lumpur as Malaysia hosts 58th AMM under Asean leadership

SEPANG, July 9 — Foreign ministers from Asean member states and its dialogue and sectoral partners continued arriving in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday for the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related events.‍

SEPANG, July 9 — Foreign ministers from Asean member states and its dialogue and sectoral partners continued arriving in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday for the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related events.

Among the latest to arrive was Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono, who landed in the capital at 11.30am.

Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, arrived at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 10.30am, followed by Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, who touched down at KLIA Terminal 1 at 3.30pm.

Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan arrived later in the evening at 9.10pm.

Malaysia is hosting the 58th AMM and related meetings under its 2025 Asean Chairmanship, themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”

A total of 24 meetings at the foreign minister level are scheduled, including bilateral sessions with Asean’s external dialogue partners such as Australia, Canada, China, the European Union (EU), India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Additionally, four trilateral meetings involving Malaysia, the Asean Secretariat, and sectoral dialogue partners — Brazil, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkiye — are planned.

This year marks the fifth time Malaysia has assumed the Asean Chair, having previously held the position in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015. — Bernama
