LONDON, Aug 18 — Nottingham Forest’s opening Premier League match brought both celebration and misfortune for goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa, whose excitement over Chris Wood’s early goal resulted in an accidental injury.

Wood’s fifth-minute strike, scored from a corner, sparked wild celebrations in the Forest dugout. In the midst of the jubilation, Barbosa hit his head on the dugout roof, suffering a deep cut.

Club medical staff quickly intervened, and the coach received six stitches for the wound.

“It was a nasty one — he needed six stitches and felt dizzy,” Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo told reporters on Sunday.

The match ended in a 3-1 win, giving Forest their first opening-day Premier League victory since the 1996-97 season, when they beat Coventry City. — Reuters
