WASHINGTON, June 12 — The White House stated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will not tolerate “mob rule,” as demonstrations against his immigration policies continue to spread across the U.S., despite a military-backed crackdown in Los Angeles.
GEORGE TOWN, March 8 — Malaysia must focus on cultivating homegrown artificial intelligence (AI) leaders in the semiconductor industry and building a strong local AI ecosystem, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He emphasized that AI adoption would not only boost operational efficiency for semiconductor players but also position Malaysia as a global leader in the sector.
“To become a global AI-driven semiconductor hub, we must not only embrace AI technologies but also create them. Now is the time for Malaysian semiconductor companies to spearhead AI-driven innovation.
“We need to develop our own AI-powered semiconductor solutions to meet industry demands and enhance Malaysia’s global competitiveness,” he said after launching the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association AI Nexus (MAIN) today.
Gobind highlighted the need for collaboration among semiconductor industry players, AI developers, research institutions, and policymakers, stressing that success in this field requires a collective effort.
He reaffirmed the Malaysian government’s commitment to supporting businesses in their digital transformation journey. To drive this initiative, the government established the National AI Office (NAIO) in December last year as a central authority to advance Malaysia’s AI agenda. The NAIO aims to provide the necessary support, resources, and guidance to help the semiconductor industry leverage AI effectively.
Meanwhile, Gobind described the launch of MAIN as a key milestone in Malaysia’s semiconductor and AI journey. The platform will facilitate collaboration among semiconductor manufacturers, design firms, and ecosystem players to integrate AI into their operations and research.
“Through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), my ministry will support the global expansion of MAIN component companies via the Global Acceleration and Innovation Network (GAIN) programme, opening new market opportunities in countries such as Brazil and India.
“We will also back proof-of-concept and pilot projects, both locally and globally, through the Global Testbed initiative. Additionally, we will strengthen MAIN by introducing cross-sector AI companies and capabilities, further enhancing Malaysia’s AI-driven semiconductor ecosystem,” he added. — Bernama
