KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — An enforcement officer stationed at the arrival counter of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has been remanded for five days over allegations of accepting approximately RM8,000 in bribes.

The remand order, effective until July 29, was granted by Magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Selangor.

According to a source, the male suspect, in his 20s, was arrested at his workplace around 3pm on Thursday.

“Initial investigations suggest the suspect received the bribe while on duty. The incident was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV),” the source said.

The source added that during a search, roughly RM8,000 in cash was discovered in the suspect’s pants pocket, believed to be proceeds from “counter setting” activities.

Selangor MACC deputy director Khairul Izwan Karim confirmed the arrest when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
