RAFAH, June 2 — Medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said Sunday that individuals it treated following a Gaza aid distribution reported being “shot from all directions” by Israeli forces at a site managed by a new US-backed group.

MSF placed blame on the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), accusing its aid delivery system of triggering chaos at the distribution point in Rafah, southern Gaza.

According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, 31 Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire during the incident. Eyewitnesses told AFP that Israeli troops opened fire on the crowd.

Both the GHF and Israeli authorities denied any such shooting took place. However, MSF and other medical teams said they treated numerous gunshot victims at Nasser Hospital in nearby Khan Younis.

“Patients told MSF they were fired upon from all directions — drones, helicopters, boats, tanks, and Israeli soldiers on the ground,” the organisation said in a statement.

MSF emergency coordinator Claire Manera described the GHF’s aid system as “dehumanising, dangerous, and deeply flawed,” saying it had led to avoidable civilian deaths and injuries.

“Humanitarian aid should be handled exclusively by experienced humanitarian organisations capable of delivering it safely and effectively,” she said.

MSF communications officer Nour Alsaqa added that hospital corridors were overwhelmed with patients, most suffering gunshot wounds to their limbs.

One injured man, Mansour Sami Abdi, recounted, “They told us to take food — then fired from every direction. This isn’t aid. It’s a lie.”

The Israeli military responded by saying its preliminary investigation found that soldiers “did not fire at civilians near or within the aid distribution zone.”

A GHF spokesperson dismissed the reports as “fabricated” and claimed they were “deliberately spread by Hamas.” — AFP
