KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — Issues surrounding espionage threats to national security and the possibility of Malaysia hosting Formula 1 (F1) once again are expected to headline today’s Dewan Rakyat proceedings.

According to the Parliament Order Paper, Roy Angau Gingkoi (GPS-Lubok Antu) will question the Home Minister on prevention and intervention measures to curb espionage activities that could undermine national security during Minister’s Question Time.

At the same session, Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu) will ask the Youth and Sports Minister about Malaysia’s prospects of hosting F1 again and plans to optimise the use of the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to ensure it continues to deliver value and benefits to the nation.

Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) is set to seek clarification from the Prime Minister on whether direct negotiation procurement remains in practice at Lembaga Tabung Haji, which falls under the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).

During the oral Q&A session, Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) will ask the Agriculture and Food Security Minister about positioning Sarawak as a food security hub under the new national policy, in line with the successful rollout of the state’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).

Dr Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar) will raise concerns with the Works Minister about severe road damage in key industrial areas, including factory routes and access to Northport, due to heavy-vehicle traffic and indiscriminate roadside parking.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera) will query the Health Minister on the threat level of new Covid-19 variants to high-risk groups, noting that 57 deaths were recorded last year.

Following the Q&A, the House is scheduled to hear the first readings of the Legal Aid and Public Defence Bill 2025, the Urban Renewal Bill 2025, and the Atomic Energy Licensing (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Proceedings will then move to the winding-up of debates on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) motion by the relevant ministries.

The current Dewan Rakyat sitting runs for 24 days and is set to conclude on Aug 28. — Bernama
