KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will implement disciplinary measures against the investigating officers (IO) and their supervisors should the investigations uncover any violations of regulations in the case concerning the death of student Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail announced that the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) has initiated an internal investigation, and a dedicated team has been formed specifically for this case.

"We are examining all facets in compliance with legal regulations and standard operating procedures (SOP). Should any infractions be identified, suitable measures will be implemented against the officers concerned."

"Certain actions must also be evaluated from a disciplinary standpoint, and I have directed the JIPS Director to implement the required measures according to the degree of non-compliance observed," he stated at a press conference here today.

Previously, it was noted that the investigating officer's failure to request a post-mortem during the initial phase was recognized as the primary reason for the non-compliance with SOP in this case.

It has been reported that Zara Qairina, a Form 1 student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha in Limauan, Sabah, was discovered unconscious close to the dormitory drain of the school at 4am on July 16 and passed away the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. — Bernama
