TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, kicked off their Japan Open title defence in commanding fashion at the Super 750 tournament held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium today.
The world number one duo breezed past Canada’s Kevin Lee and Ty Alexander Lindeman 21-13, 21-15 in their first career meeting. They will next face either Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita or Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi-Lin in the second round.
Joining them in the next round are fellow Malaysian professionals Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong, ranked 26th in the world, who pulled off a comeback victory over 18th-ranked French pair Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov. After dropping the first game, Azriyn-Wee Kiong rallied to win 13-21, 21-17, 21-19 in a 58-minute battle.
They will next take on the winners of an all-Danish showdown between fourth seeds Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard.
In women’s doubles, Malaysia’s Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting fell short of an upset against Japan’s sixth-seeded Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi. Despite taking the opening game, the unseeded Malaysians faded in the latter stages, eventually losing 21-17, 8-21, 8-21 in 56 minutes. — Bernama
