MADRID, Aug 1 — Real Madrid will start their La Liga season with a home match against Osasuna on August 19, as scheduled, after Spain’s football federation (RFEF) dismissed the club’s appeal to delay the fixture, local media reported.

The club had sought additional time for rest and pre-season preparation following their participation in the Club World Cup in the US, where they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals on July 9.

Reuters has reached out to both the RFEF and Real Madrid for comment.

According to Europa Press, the RFEF judge ruled that changes to the official calendar would only be granted in cases of force majeure, which did not apply in Real Madrid’s situation.

The judge also noted that, although Real Madrid claimed Osasuna agreed to the postponement, there was no formal response from the opposing club on record. — Reuters
