Kerian district police chief Supt Jafri Md Zain said the 64-year-old suspect was detained at his home in Bagan Serai at around 6.30pm.
He said the suspect has no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs in a urine test. “We also took a blood sample this morning to check for traces of drugs or alcohol. We are now awaiting the completion of the investigation before submitting the report to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,” Jafri said when contacted.
The incident on Wednesday claimed the life of Constable Muhammad Hakim Danial Ruhiman, 23, who served at the Bagan Serai police station. He sustained severe injuries to his waist and legs after the motorcycle he was riding grazed a lorry and later died while receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital. — Bernama
