TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — The LRT3 project connecting Bandar Utama to Johan Setia reached 99.21 per cent completion as of July 10, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
In a written parliamentary reply, Loke reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and efficient delivery of the project, with operations targeted to begin on September 30.
He was responding to a query from Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan regarding delays and increased project costs.
Loke attributed the delays mainly to the Movement Control Order (MCO) from March 2020 to October 2021, which disrupted construction and supply chains, followed by labour shortages and material constraints.
Initially approved at RM31.65 billion in 2015, the project’s cost was reduced to RM16.63 billion in 2018 after a restructuring exercise that saved RM15.02 billion.
In 2024, the government reinstated parts of the original scope, including five additional stations, seven more three-car train sets, expansion of the Johan Setia depot, procurement of 150 electric feeder buses, and construction of three bus depots — raising the total cost to RM21.93 billion.
LRT3 is designed to serve densely populated areas such as Bandar Utama, Shah Alam, and Klang, with a peak capacity of 18,630 commuters per hour per direction, expected to benefit two million residents along its alignment and reduce congestion while promoting economic growth.
