TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
PUTRAJAYA, July 18 — A contract manager from a leading construction firm is among four individuals arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged corruption involving the procurement of a RM180 million data centre construction tender in Johor.
According to a source, the contract manager, his wife, and two other individuals were detained yesterday during an operation dubbed Op Ways in the Klang Valley.
During the raid, MACC officers also confiscated approximately RM7.5 million in cash from the contract manager’s residence.
“The money is believed to be bribes received by the suspect in exchange for securing six tenders for the project. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly demanded a 2.5 per cent kickback for each successful tender,” the source said.
Putrajaya Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin has issued a remand order for the contract manager for seven days until July 24. His wife has been remanded for three days, while the other two male suspects are on remand for five days until July 22.
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Sections 16(a)(A) and 17(A) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
