GEORGE TOWN, Sept 2 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang yesterday arrested five police officers, including a senior officer, for allegedly soliciting and receiving nearly RM9,000 in bribes to avoid taking action in a stolen motorcycle case.

A source said the five men, aged between their 20s and 40s, were detained between 2 pm and 5 pm at the Penang MACC office while having their statements recorded.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have conspired in the act during an operation in Seberang Perai last Friday.

“One of them is suspected of requesting and accepting cash from a motorcycle workshop owner involved in the operation,” the source added.

Penang MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, saying the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
