KOTA TINGGI, April 20 — A 71-year-old man has been remanded for seven days until April 26 in connection with a shooting incident in Taman Kota Jaya that left three people dead yesterday.
LONDON, April 16 — Hugo Ekitike has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will miss the 2026 World Cup after suffering a serious Achilles tendon rupture during Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, with both club and country confirming the setback today.
The 23-year-old collapsed while clutching his lower right leg during the first half of Liverpool’s 2-0 quarter-final second-leg loss at Anfield on Tuesday and was later substituted.
Liverpool said scans confirmed a ruptured Achilles tendon, adding that Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup with France national football team, with no fixed timeline set for his recovery. The club said he would receive full support during rehabilitation.
France coach Didier Deschamps had earlier confirmed his withdrawal, calling it a “huge blow” and expressing support for the forward.
Ekitike, who joined Liverpool last summer from Eintracht Frankfurt, has scored 17 goals in 45 appearances. Since earning his first France cap last September, he has featured regularly at international level.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot said the injury “looks really bad,” adding that the club have already been heavily affected by injuries throughout a difficult season. — AFP
