TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ASEAN and ensuring the region advances in unison to support global stability, prosperity, and peace.
He highlighted Malaysia’s leadership in implementing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), accelerating the ASEAN Power Grid, and finalising the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement to build an open, fair, and sustainable economic future for the region’s 660 million citizens.
Anwar stressed that ASEAN must remain vocal, cohesive, and determined, rather than passively following global powers, especially amid escalating geopolitical tensions, economic rivalries, and a breakdown in multilateral cooperation.
He noted Malaysia’s success, as the 2025 ASEAN Chair, in mediating between Cambodia and Thailand to prevent further conflict, achieving an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with support from China and the United States.
Anwar, currently on a working visit to Indonesia, also marked his first appearance at the ASEAN Secretariat Building in Jakarta, symbolising Malaysia’s unwavering dedication to ASEAN’s values and leadership role. — Bernama
