KUANTAN, July 18 — A young man has been arrested for allegedly concealing the birth and death of a baby boy in a hilly area near Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan, Brinchang, Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Highlands police chief Supt Azri Ramli said the arrest followed a report from the suspect’s father, who discovered the baby’s body around 10am.

“The father noticed freshly dug soil while heading to a water tank behind their house, and upon closer inspection, found a white cloth bundle containing the deceased infant. He immediately alerted the police,” Azri said when contacted by Bernama.

Investigations revealed that the 19-year-old suspect, who works as a homestay cleaner, admitted to burying the body of the two-day-old baby, who was born to his 21-year-old stepsister.

The suspect was arrested at 5.30pm yesterday at his residence, where police also seized tools believed to have been used to dig the burial site, including hoes and shovels.

He has been remanded for four days beginning today to assist in the investigation under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth and death of a child. — Bernama
