KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 – The Malaysian government has reiterated its commitment to resuming the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared 11 years ago, with a new agreement in place.

In a statement, the Transport Ministry confirmed that the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have assigned representatives to provide technical support for the mission.

“We have a responsibility to continue the search based on credible leads to determine MH370’s final location and provide much-needed answers to the families,” the statement read.

Acknowledging the high public interest in the search, the ministry stated that it is actively finalizing the new search agreement in accordance with government procedures.

As per a Cabinet decision on December 13, 2024, Malaysia has accepted a proposal from UK-based company Ocean Infinity to conduct a new search in the southern Indian Ocean.

The operation will cover approximately 15,000 square kilometers and will be conducted on a “no find, no fee” basis, meaning payment will only be made if the aircraft is located.

Last month, Ocean Infinity’s deep-water support vessel, Armada 7806, reached a new search area in the Indian Ocean, about 1,200 miles off the coast of Perth, Australia.

Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, vanished on March 8, 2014, after departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) en route to Beijing.

Despite an extensive search covering over 46,000 square miles of the southern Indian Ocean, only a few aircraft fragments have been recovered, washing up on beaches thousands of miles apart.

The renewed search mission follows a statement from the Malaysian government last December, expressing its readiness to support efforts to locate the missing aircraft.
