KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, yesterday launched the KL Creative and Merdeka 118 Community Grants programme, aimed at supporting creative and cultural initiatives in Kuala Lumpur.

In a Facebook post, Dr Zaliha described the grants as a strategic policy investment that merges cultural values, public creativity, and the city’s economic potential.

“This programme provides a platform for individuals from all walks of life to contribute to shaping a more inclusive and vibrant identity for Kuala Lumpur,” she said.

“Through this initiative, we are creating space for citizens to actively participate in shaping the city’s character and spirit. The true strength of a city lies in its people being the agents of change.”

Dr Zaliha also stressed that without culture, physical development alone would leave Kuala Lumpur feeling empty and soulless. She echoed a quote frequently cited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his visit to Washington, DC, referencing Mark Twain: “Impressive and modern building, but culturally barren.” — Bernama
