KAPIT, Aug 17 — A week-long search for a missing man came to a tragic end today after he was found dead in a 100-metre-deep ravine along Jalan Baleh Dam, near Rumah Biduk, Nanga Sebetung.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Pika Rangga from Rumah Sura, Kerangan Bangat Ulu.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Pika was last seen on August 8 after leaving the Kapit market in his purple Perodua Bezza on his way to work. His family filed a missing person report after he failed to return home and could not be contacted.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found that a vehicle had fallen into a steep ravine. A male victim was located approximately 50 metres from the wrecked car, unconscious,” Bomba said in a statement.

Medical personnel later confirmed that the victim had died at the scene. His body was recovered using a pulley system and a bucket stretcher before being handed over to the police.

The operation, which concluded at 4.35pm, involved six firefighters, six police officers, four health personnel and seven members of the Civil Defence Force (APM).
