WASHINGTON, June 12 — The White House stated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will not tolerate “mob rule,” as demonstrations against his immigration policies continue to spread across the U.S., despite a military-backed crackdown in Los Angeles.
GUATEMALA CITY, June 6 — Authorities began evacuating over 500 residents yesterday after the Fuego volcano, Central America’s most active, erupted and released clouds of gas and ash.
Communities near the volcano, located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Guatemala City, were relocated to emergency shelters as a precaution.
“We’d rather evacuate now than mourn lives lost later,” said 25-year-old Celsa Perez, speaking to AFP.
The national disaster agency Conred announced the suspension of local school activities and the closure of a key roadway connecting the country’s southern region to the historic city of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Fuego has triggered several large-scale evacuations in recent years, including one earlier this March. In 2018, the volcano’s deadly eruption claimed 215 lives, with an equal number reported missing after rivers of lava engulfed a nearby village.
