KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Traffic along the North-South Expressway near KM265, approximately 4km after the Menora Tunnel, has resumed after a suspected explosive was safely detonated by bomb disposal teams yesterday.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin confirmed that the route is now safe for travel.

“Yes, it’s safe to pass through,” he told Harian Metro last night.

The object, an 81mm mortar bomb classified as Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), was discovered around 9.30am during landscaping work. A supervisor alerted highway patrol officers, and a police report was filed at the Jelapang police station at 12.15pm.

The Perak police bomb squad, supported by the Ipoh district unit, conducted a high-order electrical detonation.

“The bomb was intact and successfully neutralised without any casualties or damage to property,” said Noor Hisam.

The discovery led to a temporary closure of both the northbound and southbound lanes between Kuala Kangsar and Ipoh, resulting in a 15km traffic jam.

All lanes were reopened by 3.44pm, according to PLUS Malaysia Berhad.
