TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has confirmed that detailed plans for the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy will be announced by the end of September 2025, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s earlier statement on July 23.
In a written reply to Parliament, the MoF said the government is actively developing and testing the subsidy mechanism to ensure a smooth and efficient rollout.
“This includes refining data from key agencies such as the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM),” the ministry said.
The aim is to adopt a comprehensive strategy that ensures subsidies for RON95 petrol reach only the intended groups.
The statement was in response to a question by Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan (Pakatan Harapan), who sought updates on the implementation of the subsidy retargeting system, particularly the front-end and back-end processes announced earlier by the Ministry of Economy.
Once implemented, the retargeted subsidy system will enable eligible Malaysians to purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre using MyKad verification. Non-citizens and individuals not eligible for the subsidy will have to pay the full market price. — Bernama
