KOTA TINGGI, April 20 — A 71-year-old man has been remanded for seven days until April 26 in connection with a shooting incident in Taman Kota Jaya that left three people dead yesterday.
SEREMBAN, April 16 — The Negeri Sembilan government is aiming to plant two million trees under the Malaysia Greening Programme (PPM) 2.0 between now and 2030.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the revised target, up by 500,000 trees from the 1.5 million set under PPM 1.0, is achievable and reflects continued efforts to boost environmental sustainability and expand green spaces across the state.
“As of December 31 last year, the state’s permanent forest reserves covered 154,893.95 hectares, or 23.23 per cent of land area, spanning 21 forest zones. The government remains committed to ensuring that at least 50 per cent of the country’s land is covered with trees and forested areas,” he said.
He told reporters at the Negeri Sembilan PPM 2.0 launch for 2026 at PD Forest @ Sungai Menyala that the state has also pledged to gazette about 225 hectares of government land near Sungai Linggi and Sungai Sepang as permanent forest reserves.
He added that the initiative is expected to contribute to climate change mitigation while advancing the state’s sustainable development goals through environmental conservation and improved quality of life.
