TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
PORT DICKSON, Aug 12 — Fish, prawns, and squid from Port Dickson waters are safe to eat, according to Negeri Sembilan Fisheries Department director Kasim Tawe.
He explained that species such as fish and prawns pose no risk as they forage for their own food, unlike most cockles and mussels, which are farmed.
“Fish, prawns, and other mobile species are not dangerous, but mussels and cockles are because they are bred and obtain nutrients through filter feeding. Their ability to retain toxins is much higher, and if these levels exceed safe limits, it can lead to poisoning and affect human health,” he told reporters after collecting a second seawater sample from Port Dickson today.
Kasim said the results of the second test are expected on Thursday, after which the department will determine its next course of action. In the meantime, nearly 100 mussel breeders and cockle harvesters in Port Dickson have been advised to temporarily halt their activities. — Bernama
