BEIJING, July 5 — Iran’s ambassador to China has said that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to new charges, while indicating that “friendly” countries may receive preferential treatment, a proposal opposed by Washington.
NEW YORK, July 3 — Residents of New York have been opening fire hydrants in an effort to cool down as an intense heatwave grips the city, according to Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Temperatures rose above 37.8°C on Thursday, with officials warning that the heat index could reach up to 43.9°C and persist through Saturday.
City authorities have opened hydrants in several areas to help residents cope with the extreme heat, while some motorists have been driving slowly to pass through the sprayed water for relief.
The heatwave has also caused parts of New York’s roads to soften, with reports of asphalt becoming unusually pliable in some locations. — Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
