KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The third phase of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) will be distributed to 8.6 million Malaysians starting tomorrow, the Finance Ministry announced today.

The ministry said this marks an increase of 300,000 recipients compared to the first phase in January.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also finance minister, attributed the rise to the government’s decision to keep applications open year-round.

“The year-round application and appeal process reflects the Madani government’s commitment to improving the people’s welfare, ensuring no one is left out from sharing in the nation’s prosperity,” he said in a statement.

“Beyond cash assistance, STR empowers recipients towards financial independence, helping realise the equity goals of the Madani Economy.”

This phase involves RM2 billion in payments, with up to RM650 allocated per household. Disbursements will be made via bank transfers or cash payments through Bank Simpanan Nasional.

Eligible recipients include low-income households, senior citizens without spouses, and single individuals.

The ministry also urged the public to use the official STR portal to avoid falling victim to scams.
