TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
LISBON, July 13 — Sporting president Frederico Varandas has said striker Viktor Gyokeres will face a fine and be required to apologise to his teammates after failing to report on time for pre-season training, amid ongoing speculation about a potential transfer.
The 27-year-old Swedish international was scheduled to join Sporting’s training camp in Portugal’s Algarve region on July 12, following an extended break, according to local media.
Gyokeres, who has three years remaining on his contract, scored 54 goals last season and has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League side Arsenal.
“We’re calm about the situation. It will be resolved with the end of the transfer window, a significant fine, and an apology to the team,” Varandas told Lusa news agency on Saturday.
“If interested clubs aren’t willing to pay a fair market value for Viktor, we’re completely comfortable keeping him for the next three years.
“If those behind this so-called strategy believe they can pressure me into allowing an easier exit, they’re not only mistaken — they’re making the transfer even more difficult.
“No one is above the club, no matter who they are.”
Since his 2023 transfer from English Championship side Coventry City, Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting, helping the club secure back-to-back Primeira Liga titles in 2023–24 and 2024–25.
