TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has come under fire and is being urged to issue a public apology to the people of Thailand and Cambodia for ridiculing Malaysia’s diplomatic role in brokering a ceasefire between the two nations.
Finance Minister’s political secretary Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the Pasir Mas MP’s remarks were not only unpatriotic but also an embarrassment to the country, especially at a time when the world recognises Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership in promoting regional peace.
Kamil, who also leads Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), stressed that narrow-minded political rhetoric must be rejected and that irresponsible remarks such as Fadhli’s risk damaging Malaysia’s international standing.
“Malaysia will not defend reckless and disrespectful behaviour towards other nations, especially our neighbours. Just as we wouldn’t tolerate such insults directed at Malaysia, we must speak out against them when aimed at others,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He added that Islam promotes reconciliation, not mockery, and that Malaysia's commitment to diplomacy and humanitarian solutions should be upheld above political hatred.
Kamil also noted that the ceasefire effort between Thailand and Cambodia goes beyond political affiliations and is a matter of national honour.
“This is about Malaysia’s stature as a respected regional leader. While global powers like the US and China welcomed our efforts, the opposition responded with cynicism,” he said.
“They forget that during their time in power, no diplomatic achievement of this magnitude was made. Now that the Madani government is actively engaging in peacebuilding, they resort to ridicule and resentment.”
Earlier, Fadhli had posted a controversial image on social media depicting a goat and a sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey acting as the judge, accompanied by a caption suggesting that the two animals didn’t need a monkey to mediate.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, following a special meeting chaired by him in Putrajaya. The meeting was attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. — Bernama
