Madrid, May 15 — Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé was jeered by sections of the Santiago Bernabéu crowd during his side’s 2-0 La Liga victory over Real Oviedo on Thursday.
MANILA, May 14 — Philippine police said Thursday they have detained a suspect after gunfire broke out inside the Senate the previous night, where a lawmaker wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) was taking refuge.
Authorities said no one was injured in the incident, which occurred while former police chief and Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, linked to ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign, was inside the building.
Philippine police spokesperson Brigadier-General Randulf Tuano said the suspect was arrested on the second floor of the Senate and is now under investigation. Live ammunition was also recovered, and the suspect is being tested for gunshot residue.
It remains unclear how many people were involved, with investigations ongoing.
Interior Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla said Senate security personnel fired warning shots at unidentified armed individuals who had entered the stairway area. The men later fired into the air before fleeing.
Lawmakers, including Dela Rosa, reportedly barricaded themselves inside their offices during the incident.
Dela Rosa is facing an ICC warrant for crimes against humanity over killings linked to the Duterte administration’s anti-drug crackdown, which left thousands dead according to human rights groups.
Duterte himself was arrested last year and is currently detained in The Hague awaiting trial. — AFP
