WASHINGTON, June 12 — The White House stated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will not tolerate “mob rule,” as demonstrations against his immigration policies continue to spread across the U.S., despite a military-backed crackdown in Los Angeles.
MONTREAL, June 15 — McLaren, the current leaders in the Formula 1 championship, acknowledged they are in damage limitation mode going into today’s Canadian Grand Prix, after being outpaced in qualifying by Mercedes’ George Russell and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Oscar Piastri, who currently tops the drivers’ standings by 10 points over teammate Lando Norris, bounced back from a disappointing Friday to secure third place on the grid, while Norris qualified seventh.
“Given how practice went, I’m actually pretty happy,” said Piastri. “It was a good turnaround. Third place is decent and I’ll take it.
“We debated whether to go with medium or soft tyres for Q3. We chose the softs because we were facing several issues, so we opted to play it safe and stay consistent.”
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella confirmed the team’s cautious outlook, stating, “We are in damage limitation mode,” indicating that securing a podium would be seen as a positive outcome.
Norris admitted his qualifying performance was hampered by mistakes.
“It’s not ideal — just too many errors,” he said. “I clipped the wall on my final lap. I felt confident, and the car felt good, but I made too many mistakes.”
He also noted that recent upgrades, including a new front wing and suspension, didn’t appear to impact his performance.
“This track demands a car with strong ride quality and the ability to handle bumps and low grip conditions,” he explained. “The car was fast, and maybe the medium tyre would’ve been quicker at the end of qualifying, but our overall pace is solid — I’m just starting too far back again.” — AFP
