ISLAMABAD, April 15 — Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will begin a four-day diplomatic tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey today, the foreign ministry said, as Islamabad intensifies efforts ahead of a potential second round of US-Iran peace talks.
MELAKA, April 14 — Two Chinese men have been detained for their alleged involvement in a scam syndicate offering fake online part-time jobs, which was operating out of a double-storey terrace house in Taman Puncak Bertam here yesterday.
Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the suspects, aged 28 and 38, were working as customer service operators for the group and were arrested during Op Frontier at around 10.30am.
He explained that the operation was conducted by the Intelligence/Operations division of the Melaka police contingent headquarters together with the Melaka Tengah district Commercial Crime Investigation Division.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate has been active since February, targeting Chinese nationals living in the United States.
“The house functioned as a call centre, with the group using the Telegram application to promote non-existent part-time job offers,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the scam, including laptops, mobile phones, and network equipment, with an estimated total value of RM30,000.
He added that authorities will seek a remand order for both suspects today, and the case is being investigated under Sections 420/511 of the Penal Code for attempted cheating. — Bernama
