NIBONG TEBAL, June 24 — Police have launched an investigation into a group of high-powered motorcycle riders who were allegedly seen using a lane designated for cars and lorries on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge last Friday.

According to Astro Awani, Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said the incident took place at around 4.35pm at KM0.4 of the bridge.

“This case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving and endangering public safety,” he was quoted as saying.

Preliminary investigations suggest the bikers were heading from Batu Kawan towards Batu Maung, he added.

“The police would like to emphasise that road safety is a collective responsibility,” he said.

A 33-second video of the incident, showing the group riding in a lane reserved for larger vehicles, has since gone viral on social media, drawing criticism from the public for their dangerous behaviour.
