BEIJING, July 5 — Iran’s ambassador to China has said that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to new charges, while indicating that “friendly” countries may receive preferential treatment, a proposal opposed by Washington.
REMBAU, July 4 — Police are tracking down a man who fled into a palm oil plantation after allegedly driving recklessly, travelling against traffic and crashing into two vehicles while attempting to evade arrest at Kilometre 242 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) early this morning.
Acting Rembau district police chief DSP Azmi Ali said officers had initially ordered the 30-year-old driver to stop after discovering that the road tax and insurance for his Volkswagen Passat had expired.
However, the suspect reportedly refused to comply, instead accelerating, driving dangerously in a zig-zag manner and eventually heading against the flow of traffic before colliding with a Proton Saga and a Toyota Yaris.
He then abandoned the car and escaped on foot into a nearby oil palm plantation. Police later found a wallet believed to belong to the suspect, a Selangor man who is said to be unlicensed and to have prior criminal and drug-related records.
Azmi said police, including the K9 unit and the Negeri Sembilan Criminal Investigation Department, are actively searching for him. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In a separate case in Jempol, a 44-year-old motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run incident on Jalan Ladang Kok Foh on June 24 after being struck by a car. Police later arrested a 32-year-old Pakistani man and seized a Proton Wira believed to be involved in the case. The suspect has since been charged under Section 41(1) of the same Act. — Bernama
