WASHINGTON, June 12 — The White House stated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will not tolerate “mob rule,” as demonstrations against his immigration policies continue to spread across the U.S., despite a military-backed crackdown in Los Angeles.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has allocated RM55 million this year for the maintenance of agricultural irrigation and drainage systems nationwide, the Dewan Rakyat was informed today.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu stated that RM14.8 million of this allocation is specifically designated for the East Coast states.
He explained that the initiative is part of the ministry’s proactive efforts to mitigate the impact of floods on the agricultural sector, particularly in the East Coast.
“In addition, the ministry ensures that mobile pumps are ready to operate at optimum levels in paddy-growing areas to drain excess water while also ensuring that all tide control gates in these areas function properly for more effective water flow management,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to a question from Datuk Dr. Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (PN-Pasir Puteh) regarding the ministry’s mitigation measures to protect the agricultural sector from floods, particularly in the East Coast states.
Mohamad highlighted additional measures, including the implementation of climate-smart agriculture, the development of crop varieties resistant to extreme weather, the introduction of innovative agricultural technologies, and the strengthening of database systems through the Geographic Information System (GIS).
He also emphasized the need for improvements in the country’s weather forecasting system to enhance accuracy and minimize the impact of floods on the agricultural sector.
In response to a supplementary question from Nik Muhammad Zawawi on the government’s readiness to provide sufficient drainage infrastructure, particularly in Pasir Puteh, Mohamad stated that two projects had been approved this year with a total cost ceiling of RM16 million.
These projects involve upgrading tidal gates and pump houses in areas outside the rice granaries, including Pasir Puteh. — Bernama
