TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 6 — The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing Turkish national in the waters off Pulau Yu entered its sixth day yesterday, with no positive developments reported.
Terengganu Maritime director Captain Hamiludin Che Awang said multiple search methods had been deployed in the effort to locate Eser Demirkol, 52, but so far without success.
He added that unfavourable weather conditions, including strong winds and choppy seas, continued to hamper the search.
“Operations on the sixth day began at 7am and were suspended at 7pm due to weather. They will resume at 7.30am tomorrow. Today’s search focused on the area where the yacht sank and the location where the second victim, Ahmet Volkan Ata, 52, was found — approximately five nautical miles from Pulau Yu,” he said in a statement.
Hamiludin said the rescue team had deployed a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) to assist in underwater searches, but no new findings were reported as of 6.50pm.
He also confirmed that the two survivors, Volkan Ata and Ates Demiroren, 42, have been discharged from hospital after their conditions stabilised.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has urged anyone with information or who spots suspicious objects near the incident area to contact the Terengganu Maritime Operations Centre at 09-6224357.
Earlier reports said the three Turkish nationals were part of a sailing expedition intending to return to their homeland. However, their yacht, Daisy, sank last Tuesday evening after being struck by a storm near Pulau Yu. — Bernama
