KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — The government remains steadfast in its commitment to national security in light of the observed rise in activities by foreign agents within the country, stated Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who serves as the spokesperson for the Madani Government, stated that the activities of these agents are under constant surveillance by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), with necessary measures to be implemented to ensure national security.

He stated that Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail recently affirmed the increased activities of foreign agents as a reaction to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's outspoken position, as well as that of the government in supporting the Palestinian cause.

It is undeniable that due to the government's and the Prime Minister's firm stance on Gaza and Palestine, he has emerged as one of the most scrutinized leaders in Southeast Asia by these groups.

"Security is of utmost importance, and the PDRM is consistently overseeing the circumstances. We receive regular updates, including during the National Security Council meetings," he informed reporters following the inauguration of the Gaza Humanitarian Virtual Reality (VR) Exhibition, which was held in conjunction with the 'Sumud Nusantara Carnival' at Dataran Merdeka today.

Despite the security situation being maintained, Fahmi emphasized that any possible risks must not be overlooked, as Malaysia's stance on Palestine is based on humanitarian values rather than emotional responses.

He stated that Malaysia has consistently called for an end to the conflict and the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, while also acknowledging the Palestinian right to statehood.

The current distinction is that our Prime Minister has effectively swayed the views of numerous global leaders in a notably favorable manner. For instance, after engaging with our Prime Minister, former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte altered their positions.

The Japanese government, for example, continues to be dedicated to collaborating with Malaysia and other countries to reconstruct Gaza. They are eager to engage in prompt discussions regarding this issue, and their commitment has not wavered," he stated.

Regarding the ‘Gaza Time Tunnel’ virtual reality project created by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM), Fahmi stated that it provides visitors with a profoundly immersive experience of life in Palestine, encompassing the current conflict in Gaza.

I was deeply touched as they not only reconstructed the geography and architecture but also illustrated particular events such as Apache helicopter strikes, tank assaults, and recent heartrending tragedies.

"This is the reason we persist in providing our unwavering support and advocate for the absolute independence of Palestine. This stance reflects Malaysia's principled position," he stated. — Bernama
