SHAH ALAM, July 25 — The forest fires reported in several parts of Selangor are now under control, according to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

However, Amirudin noted that monitoring efforts are still being intensified in peatland areas due to the higher risk and difficulty in managing fires in such terrain.

“There were three reported fire incidents — in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Kajang, and Seri Gombak. Thankfully, all were quickly brought under control.

“We're continuing to monitor the situation in Kuala Kubu Bharu closely to prevent any further outbreaks. Our main concern lies in the peatland areas because fires there are harder to contain and typically require large-scale operations,” he said.

He made these remarks after officiating the third Selangor Children’s Book Festival at the PKNS Complex here today.

Amirudin also shared that the state government, through Public Health and Environment Exco Jamaliah Jamaluddin and the State Disaster Management Unit, is conducting daily monitoring of the haze situation.

He added that more frequent patrols are being carried out in hotspot and high-risk areas to prevent fire incidents from recurring.

On the Selangor Children’s Book Festival 2025, Amirudin said the event’s third edition reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the book industry ecosystem, especially in the children’s literature segment.

Besides the annual general book fair, Selangor is also dedicated to hosting specialised fairs focused on children’s books, providing greater opportunities for local publishers to promote their works.

This year’s fair features over 160 booths from book publishers and child-focused agencies and organisations. The four-day event, held at the PKNS Complex, is expected to attract around 80,000 visitors. — Bernama
