KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 – Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has filed reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding the dissemination of various defamatory and provocative videos on social media.

In a statement issued yesterday, TH expressed that it takes the matter seriously and is diligently observing social media platforms for any videos or links disseminating false information that may harm its reputation.

"The statement emphasized the importance of the public refraining from accepting unverified information and instead relying solely on TH's official social media platforms for accurate updates."

Group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad warned that videos featuring baseless allegations and inflammatory assertions, especially concerning TH's branding and governance efforts, have the potential to mislead the public.

In the same statement, Mustakim mentioned that TH was founded mainly to assist Malaysian Muslims in saving and preparing financially for the pilgrimage.

"Throughout the years, TH has increasingly been linked to pilgrimage services, whereas the expenses associated with performing the haj keep escalating, and the savings of depositors have not increased correspondingly. As a result, many individuals lack the necessary funds to meet this obligation," he clarified.

In response to this, TH is launching a rebranding effort aimed at reinforcing its position as the leading Islamic savings institution, promoting regular and consistent saving practices.

Mustakim emphasized that the haj operations and management continue to be entirely overseen by a Bumiputera Muslim team; however, technical assistance is necessary for the intricate rebranding process, which is being supplied by a consortium established by TH.

TH must transform into a savings institution that prioritizes customer needs, implementing operational and branding strategies that are pertinent, efficient, and adaptable to shifting demographics.

"This rebranding initiative seeks to reestablish TH's status as a reputable Islamic savings institution, assisting Muslims in increasing their savings and meeting their pilgrimage responsibilities," he stated. — Bernama
