TAWAU, Aug 2 — Swift action by the fire brigade saved 1,300 houses in Kampung Kurnia Jaya from being destroyed, though 26 homes were razed in a blaze yesterday morning.

TAWAU, Aug 2 — Swift action by the fire brigade saved 1,300 houses in Kampung Kurnia Jaya from being destroyed, though 26 homes were razed in a blaze yesterday morning.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations officer Madzlan Sharman said the fire alarm was received at 9.37am, and 39 personnel with five vehicles, including two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines, were dispatched to the scene.

“At the village, firefighters carried out extinguishing operations using seawater and water from our fire-brigade tanks,” he said in a statement today.

He confirmed there were no casualties as all residents managed to escape. The operation ended at 11.45am.

Madzlan added that the cause and losses were still under investigation. — Bernama
