KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
TAWAU, June 29 — A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting and threatening his wife with sharp weapons at their home here.
Tawau District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the arrest followed a police report lodged by the victim, who feared for her safety.
He said the incident is believed to have been triggered by a domestic dispute between the couple.
“The victim reported that she was assaulted and threatened with an axe and a knife, along with receiving verbal threats from the suspect,” Jasmin said in a statement.
Following the report, a police team tracked the suspect to an area near Kampung Haji Matahir. Upon noticing the police, the 44-year-old attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief struggle.
Police also confiscated an axe and a knife believed to have been used during the incident.
The suspect and the seized weapons were taken to the Bombalai police station for further investigation,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
Jasmin urged the public to avoid using violence to resolve domestic disputes.
“Conflicts should be settled peacefully or referred to the relevant authorities for proper guidance and support,” he said. — The Borneo Post
