KOTA TINGGI, April 20 — A 71-year-old man has been remanded for seven days until April 26 in connection with a shooting incident in Taman Kota Jaya that left three people dead yesterday.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 — The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), under the Ministry of Transport (MOT), has upheld a RM100,000 compound fine against Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (RRSB) for violating Section 101(10) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
In a statement today, APAD said the penalty stems from the May 24, 2021 incident involving a train collision between the KLCC and Kampung Baru LRT stations, which affected 213 passengers, with 65 sustaining injuries.
The agency explained that maintenance deficiencies led to the operator’s failure to ensure the safety of the rail alignment, including issues that rendered the line unreadable in both directions. This ultimately resulted in unsafe train operations and caused the incident.
APAD stressed that safety in land public transport must never be compromised, adding that the enforcement action serves not only as a legal measure but also as a clear warning to all rail operators to adhere strictly to maintenance standards and ensure proper training for personnel.
It added that the decision to impose the fine reflects the importance of public interest and accountability in safeguarding the integrity of the country’s rail system.
APAD also reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure full compliance with all legal, operational, and safety requirements. — Bernama
