BEIJING, July 5 — Iran’s ambassador to China has said that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to new charges, while indicating that “friendly” countries may receive preferential treatment, a proposal opposed by Washington.
KUCHING, July 5 — Three men lost their lives while another escaped with minor injuries after two four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles collided at a ‘P’ turning along the Pan Borneo Highway between Sarikei and Sibu last night.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said firefighters from the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 8.30pm.
In a statement, the department said the crash involved a single-cab and a double-cab 4WD.
“All three occupants of the double-cab vehicle were seriously affected. One was thrown from the vehicle, while the other two were trapped inside. The driver of the single-cab vehicle sustained minor injuries,” it said.
Firefighters used specialised rescue equipment to extricate the two trapped victims before all the casualties were handed over to Health Ministry personnel. The deceased were later released to the police for further action.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, while the identities of the victims have yet to be confirmed. — Bernama
