KOTA TINGGI, April 20 — A 71-year-old man has been remanded for seven days until April 26 in connection with a shooting incident in Taman Kota Jaya that left three people dead yesterday.
SHAH ALAM, March 31 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that Malaysia’s aviation and logistics sectors remain operational, though both are facing intense pressure from rising oil and jet fuel prices.
The minister confirmed that the government is monitoring the situation closely and maintaining regular dialogue with airlines as global fuel costs continue to climb due to ongoing international tensions.
Loke noted that while fuel supplies are stable, airlines must manage costs strictly. Some carriers have already informed the government they are considering rationalizing flight operations to avoid heavy losses.
These temporary measures may include consolidating routes or reducing flight frequencies, particularly for sectors with low passenger numbers. These adjustments are intended to help the industry navigate current economic challenges.
The shipping sector is facing similar difficulties, with operators grappling with higher operational costs. Loke anticipated that these increases would likely result in surcharges being passed on to customers.
The Ministry is currently exploring ways to ensure that any new shipping surcharges are implemented in a systematic and standardized manner to protect the interests of all stakeholders involved.
Loke concluded by noting that these industry concerns have been elevated to the national level, with shipping representatives presenting their case to the National Economic Action Council (NEAC).
