IPOH, Aug 19 — Two men were killed after being struck by a car while refuelling their van on the roadside at Kilometre 84.6 of Jalan Kuala Kangsar–Gerik–Pengkalan Hulu on Sunday.

Gerik district police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said police received a report at 9.15pm regarding a collision involving a Nissan Vanette, a Proton Wira and a Proton Preve.

The Nissan Vanette, driven by a 45-year-old man with two male passengers aged 18 and 30, had stopped by the roadside after running out of fuel. While the driver and the 18-year-old passenger were refuelling the van on the right side, a Proton Wira driven by a 19-year-old man with two passengers (also aged 19) nearly collided with a Proton Preve ahead of it.

As the Proton Wira swerved, the Proton Preve — driven by a 60-year-old man with a 36-year-old female passenger — hit the two men standing beside the van, causing severe injuries.

The 18-year-old passenger died at the scene, while the 45-year-old driver died while receiving treatment at Gerik District Hospital. All occupants of the other vehicles escaped unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
